Royal Battle For UEL

The penultimate game of the 2017/18 BUCS hockey season is approaching and University of East London are just two games away of being closer to the top spot, Teri Dormer previews.

The second to last match is against third-placed Queen Mary 3rd this Wednesday for a 4:30 kick off and the East Londoners have the home advantage.

Winning this game will mean that UEL have a higher chance of stealing the top spot off of City 1st who have been sat top of the table from the beginning of the season.

The pressure is high and UEL are dependent on City’s results. If City lose their last two remaining games and UEL are successful it means that UEL will bring the title home.

Defender Tim Li said the team’s main focus for the last two games is to perform well. With a score line of one win two draws and one loss, UEL have remained in the top half of the league all season.

The boys in blue have grown so much as a team over the last year, their performance and connections has developed and is clearly shown on the pitch. UEL have been working on the technical side and the actual play of the game over the fitness.

Captain Isaac Charles has directed the team into focus on building on their individual performances: “This will help to build technical skill for everyone”. UEL are focusing on attacking and defending, “the former being the main focus, allowing us to push on and score more”.
