To coincide with their two-day strike from 8 March to 11 March, hospital doctors from all over East London gathered outside Stratford station to protest against the government’s new NHS contract for junior doctors, which also requires them to work at weekends.
The doctor I spoke to refuted Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt’s claims that a seven-day NHS would save 11,000 lives, arguing that though some patients’ lives might be made ‘easier,’ no lives would in fact be saved, because of lack of staff, and lack of extra funding.
