WCMMA 24: Davies Dismantles Nolan

Adil Sajjad reports on a night of hard knocks and come-backs at Warrior Challenge MMA 24 in east London.

Harry Davies defeated Shane Nolan in round two of the main event to win the vacant WCMMA welterweight championship in a fantastic come-back victory.

Nolan rocked Davies early in the first round after tagging him on the chin with a right hand in a stunning exchange but succumbed to a rear-naked-choke in the second round after controlling a large portion of the first.

After the fight, Davies conceded that he was in trouble in round one, saying to Dave O’Donnell, “Yeah, he’d pretty much knocked me out. Shane’s got some serious skill.”

Prior to the fight, middleweight champion and ‘Born to Fight’ alumni Kevin Jillion was invited into the cage alongside ‘Born to Fight’ winner Henry Pulfer to announce their upcoming championship fight on June 24th.

Jillion and Pulfer remained friendly with each other throughout the segment, with Jillion telling O’Donnell, ‘the fight makes sense so let’s give the fans what they want’.

Continuing the trend of come-back victories, Rickel Reid silenced the extremely vocal Gareth Robson supporters by flattening him with a massive right hook, again in the second round.

Ground-And-Pound

Robson used his reach well to pick at Reid from the outside but was unlucky to be caught by such a heavy strike one of the few times he lingered within range.

Ricky Graieri also dispatched Shwan Bradosti easily in the first round as the Kurdish heavyweight was forced to tap-out after being taken down and repeatedly ‘ground-and-pounded’ by Graieri.

The big men tussled with each other early on but after a successful trip, Graieri worked his way in to a mount and rained down several unanswered strikes before Bradosti submitted.

In yet another all-action bout, Robin Ling stopped Marcus Madden by TKO after landing a big right-hand against the cage and following up with at least a dozen short strikes to Madden’s temple.

Dan Ruddy also defeated John White in the first fight of the main card with an early stoppage that set the tone the rest of the night.

The heavyweights started slowly but with what seemed like the first punch thrown, Ruddy dropped White to the canvas and followed up with strikes until the fight was stopped.
