Addicks Close In On Title

Kwame Kufuor previews Charlton U21s’ clash against Leeds United in a game which could secure the title for the Addicks.

Charlton could extend their lead at the summit of Professional Development League 2 South when they host Leeds United at The Valley.

Jason Euell’s side currently top the table with 53 points, with Cardiff City second with 44 points.

However, the Addicks could temporarily widen their lead to 12 points with a win against the Yorkshire club in an early kick-off and mount pressure on Cardiff who have a late kick- off against Hull City.

The Addicks had to fight back to get a draw against Bristol City the last time they were in action at The Valley on Thursday.

They took a lead through Joshua Umerah in the 17th minute but City equalised through Shawn McCoulsky and went ahead through George Dowling. Mikhail Kennedy drew Charlton level in the 70th minute for a final score of 2-2.

Leeds go into the game on the back of a 3-1 defeat they suffered against Charlton’s title rivals Cardiff City. A win for Leeds will temporally take them above Nottingham Forest due to a late kick-off for Forest.

Euell’s youngsters can mathematically clinch the League title today if they win against Leeds and if their title rivals, Cardiff draw or lose their game.
