Addicks Losing Hope

Harvey Clare reports on Charlton’s despairing 3-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Another loss for Charlton leaves them six points adrift from 21st placed Fulham, with only eight games remaining.

Charlton boss Jose Riga said “It’s a disappointment because we’re coming through (a period of) three good games; we knew everybody had to be at their best level, the level we had against Middlesbrough and we didn’t have that today.

“We were present in most of the game, we couldn’t find a way to compete in the final 20 minutes, we have to work and try to find the right solutions. I don’t accept the situation, not at all.”

The loss to promotion-pushing Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday was Charlton’s 20th league defeat this campaign and the possibility of relegation is now something staring The Valley faithful in the face.

The first goal came after the break when Lees’ header beat The Addicks’ Nick Pope at his near post.

Wednesday made it 2-0 through Fernando Forestieri just six minutes later in the 70th minute when an Atdhe Nuhiu header hit the post only to leave an open net for Forestieri to double the advantage.

The final goal came from a set piece after an Alex Lopez shot from outside the box deflected off Addicks’ midfielder Ba.
