Harvey Clare reports on a busy transfer window for Charlton Athletic…

It’s been an eventful January for Charlton as the transfer window saw the Addicks bring in five players whilst also seeing four players go out on loan.

Charlton left it right up to the wire, bringing in two new players with only a few hours remaining on the clock.

The Addicks made two early January signings during the window with the club bringing in Middlesbrough’s Rhys Williams and West Ham’s Diego Poyet on loan.

The first signing of transfer deadline day was 23-year-old Arsenal misfit Yaya Sanogo on loan until the end of the season.

The Frenchman was on loan to Dutch club Ajax where he’d only managed to play four games since July before signing for the South East London club. This is not the first time the Gunner’s have loaned players out to Charlton. Yaya Sanogo now joins Francis Coquelin and Alex Song who both have been loaned out by the Arsenal in previous years.

French International Rod Fanni signed on loan for the remainder of the season. The 34 year old will bring valuable experience to the club, with the right back winning back-to-back Coupe de la Ligue tittles during the years 2011-2012.

Adding to the signings which the Addicks made, was 29-year-old Portuguese defender Jorge Teixeira for an undisclosed fee from Belgium club, Standard Liege.

Time to say goodbye

The window saw the departure of Karlan Ahearne-Grant to Cambridge and Joe Pigott to Luton with both being loan deals.

Striker Tony Watt also left the Addicks. The Scotsman scored seven goals this season for both Charlton and Cardiff City before eventually being loaned out to relegation rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Ricardo Vaz Te and midfielder Franck Moussa were amongst the players who saw their contract terminated by the club.

Charlton Athletic will be looking to climb out of the relegation zone on Saturday when they face 22nd place Bristol City. A win for Jose Rigas’ men would mean the team build on last weeks win against fellow relegation battlers Rotheram and place themselves 20th in the table.
