Animated About Anime

Kay Ayed discovers a new anime artist

From May 27-29th, Comic Con comes to ExCel in East London for the second time this year. Fans of comics, anime, and other sci-fi culture will not only meet their favourite characters, but also sometimes engage in cosplay – which means dressing up as them too.

This means cosplayers will be travelling on the DLR, so if you see a stormtrooper, it’s reasonably safe to assume you’re in less danger than on other days.

Zahrah Fazil, a resident of Leyton and a frequent Comic Con-goer, explains the appeal of anime:

“We live in a human world with bad news every single day, but the moment I switch on my laptop to put on anime it’s like I switch reality off and enter a different world. The details are so perfect, the story lines are just awesome….” she says.

It’s a sentiment shared by artist and anime fan Tayba Al-Saffar, who hopes that one day the artwork on sale at Comic Con will include her own awesome work.

Tayba draws anime characters and other Japanese-style images using acrylic, watercolour or simply pen on paper, as shown in the gallery below.
