Anticipating 2018

Sony Santa Monica

What a rush 2017 gave to us hungry gamers! Some of the wildest games were released last year, which had all our gaming senses tingling at once. So I wonder what’s coming up in 2018.

There are no new games consoles this year, but with the help of the E3 trailer releases; my own general gamer knowledge; and the occasional opinion of experienced gamer Barekill, I’ve worked out what we’re most likely to be spending our money on.

#10 YAKUZA 6 – The Song of Life

Release Date: April 17th

PlayStation 4

Sega/Rya Ga Gotoku Studio

Originally released on PlayStation 2 in 2005 Yakuza is now making a comeback on PlayStation 4, offering a refreshed experience to its loyal fans. Protagonist Kazuma Kiryu is back at it again kicking ass and saving the damsel in distress.

#9 A Way Out

Release Date: March 23rd

PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC

Hazelight/Electronic Arts

Created by Hazelight Studios, this two-player co-op game is about two men trying to break out of prison. Unlike other two-player co-ops, it’s set in the early 1970s and makes use of a variety of game-play set-ups, such as shooting, driving, crawling and solving other physical problems. Its release date is March 23rd.

#8 SpiderMan

Release Date: Late 2018

PlayStation 4

Insomniac Games/Sony

The friendly neighbourhood spider is back with new and exciting features for both fans and newcomers to enjoy. Doing what we know he does best, he will be fighting crime and being the good vigilante we know he is. Expecting nothing short of a great game, everyone is eagerly awaiting some actual gameplay footage from E3 this year. BareKill: “I’ve played previous Spiderman games in the past and they have been nothing more then mediocre at best. The story lines have been on point but I’m expecting better graphics and fighting techniques from this one!”

#7 Shadow of Colossus

Release Date: February 8th

Playstation 4

Sony Interactive Entertainment/Sony Ico/SIE Japan Studio

The new Shadow of Colossus is a remake of the original which was introduced on the PS2 in 2006 and was considered one of the greatest games of all time – for those who are into this type of game. So more then ten years later Bluepoint Games have developed the action using ultra-high-definition art sets. The game concept of boss-battle fighting remains the same, but now with the added twist of a new control scheme. BareKill: “I am REALLY excited for this one as it’s been long overdue. I thoroughly enjoyed the original on the PlayStation 2 and can’t wait to see the enhancements that the PS4 edition has made to it.”

#6 Red Dead Redemption 2

Release Date: Sometime in 2018

PlayStation 4, Xbox One

RockStar Games

About to return is the infamous Red Dead Redemption 2 with a sequel to its previously high-selling predecessor. Anticipation ran high when the sequel was announced in 2016, but RockStar have yet to give anymore info out. BareKill: “I liked the few similarities between this and Grand Theft Auto but with the bad boy cowboy feel. Brilliant! Can’t wait for the interactive world of the Wild West.”

#5 FarCry 5

Release Date: March 27th

PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC

Ubisoft/Montreal

For all those who are not aware of FarCry and its first person shooter perspective, it allows players to explore the open map but now with an added twist. It now allows for players to play the entire game with a friend and experience the havoc together. Having personally played the demo of this, I for one am excited about what the villain in the militant group of Christian extremists in rural Montana will have to show for himself. BareKill “I’m ready to battle it out solo or with a buddy. Bring it on.”

#3 The Last Of Us Part 2

Release Date: No official Date, but expected in late 2018

PlayStation 4

Naughty Dog/Sony Interactive Entertainment

We have all been waiting for this one: the dramatic return of Ellie and Joel the iconic duo on another claw gripping, zombie enthralled, bloodthirsty quest to try and save mankind from certain extinction. Set five years after the original, we will join these two while they journey through post-apocalyptic cities to get the cure. With anticipation for this title so high, developer Naughty Dog hasn’t revealed much about the game, but we can expect it to be zombie-infused and extremely violent. BareKill: “Oh My Gosh, I actually can’t wait for this game. Out of all zombie games this one is certainly my favourite. The story mode and online multiplayer is 10/10”

#2 Kingdom Hearts 3

Release Date: No official Date, but expected in late 2018

PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Square Enix

This game may involve Disney characters, but it attracts all kinds of ages due to its storyline and game play. Zora and his team – including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy – team up with a wide range of Disney stars to create a seamlessly smooth, fun filled game for everybody to enjoy. BareKill: “I’ve waited ten years for Zora and his Keyblade since the PlayStation 2. I’m sure it’s gonna be just as fun and can’t wait to see which characters will be introduced. I’m hoping for Wreck-It Ralph or Elsa from Frozen.”

#1 God of War: Be a Warrior

Release Date: Mid 2018

PlayStation 4

Sony Santa Monica

This PlayStation exclusive brings back a classic to its console, but with a much more exciting storyline to it. The god-slaying demigod returns with son in hand to show how strong his bloodline is as the ageing father demonstrates his amazing sword skills. Partnering with his son Atreus, Kratos continues his vengeful path of destruction to show the gods who’s really in charge. BareKill: “I’ve been a devoted God of War fan since the beginning and have played and completed all five so far. So I’m expecting nothing but the best. I’ve always wondered when this Casanova would settle down and have a child (cheeky laugh). Good action adventure game for those interested.”
