Barking Outclass Sawbridgeworth

Barking continue their successful run of form with a strong 3-1 away win over Sawbridgworth Town, as Jordan Parsons reports

After winning their last three matches Barking were looking to end the year on top, and they look set to do that with goals from Steve Willis and James Peagram.

It looked to be a straightforward game for the Blues, as early in the first half Ricky Tabard broke free on the far side, played the ball across the keeper only for Joe Staunton to skew it over the bar

Just moments later on the 20th minute, a corner was played in by Paul Oshin who found the head of Brad Ling. The keeper fumbled the catch allowing Oshin a second chance only to send the ball up into the air and allow Steve Willis to nod home, 1-0 to the Blues.

Top Chance

On the 30 minute mark, another corner this time from Willis on the far side, found the head of Staunton played it down to Oshin, who then forced a top save from the Sawbridgworth keeper. The ball was then scrambled out to the edge of the box from a half-hearted clearance which arrived at John Bricknell who could only find the hands of the keeper.

On the stroke of half time, a long throw into the box from Ling found Peagram who went for the spectacular acrobatic which pinged the post and went wide.

Sawbridgeworth hit back almost straight from the off, playing some free flowing football to find a hole in the Barking defence, allowing the striker through to smash the ball into the roof of the net, giving the home side a brace 1-1.

Barking took their time, with the second goal coming in the last five minutes of the game. The ball was played across the keeper to Peagram who clinically placed the ball past the keeper to make it 2-1.

Strong Finish

The blues then grabbed another, with the third goal coming late in the game. On the counter-attack Peagram broke through the defence from the halfway line and then placed the ball to the bottom left of the keeper with his second of the game to make it 3-1.

Peagram nearly had a hatrick when his 30 yard free kick nearly caught the Sawbridgeworth keeper out after it curled around the wall and forced a sloppy save.

The Blues took their fourth consecutive win in style, and go six points clear at the top, with two games left of the year barking will be looking to finish at the top of the table come Christmas, when they next visit struggling London Bari.
