Sead Dizdarevic previews the next big fight…

British boxer Kell Brook will be defending his IBF Welterweight title for the second time in two months against fellow Briton Frankie Gavin at the O2 Arena on May 30th.

Brook (34-0-0) will go into the fight as the favourite after an impressive display against Romanian boxer Jo Jo Dan in March, but he will have to be at his best to beat Frankie Gavin (22-1-0) who has won his last three fights, his most recent victory coming in a points decision against Serbian boxer Bogdan Mitic.

There is also a spectacular undercard which features two more world title fights and the return of Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua.

One of the two other world title fights includes Kevin Mitchell (39-2-0) taking on Jorge Linares (38-3-0) for his WBC Lightweight title. This fight will be Linares’s first title defence since he knocked out Javier Prieto in December to win the title. Mitchell will hope to produce a similar performance to his eighth-round stoppage victory against Daniel Estrada at the same venue to win the title.

The other title fight pits Welshman Lee Selby against Russia’s Evgeny Gardovich for the Russians IBF Featherweight crown. Selby (20-1-0) returns to the O2 where his latest victory came in a ninth-round TKO win over Australian boxer Joel Bunker. This will be Gardovich’s (19-0-1) fifth defence of his IBF crown and will be looking to make sure he continues his run of successful title defences.

Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua (10-0-0) will be taking on US veteran Kevin Johnson (29-6-1). This bout was originally meant to take place at the O2 Arena back in January 31st 2015 but was rescheduled due to Joshua suffering a back injury. The fight could potentially be Joshua’s toughest fight to date.

‘Rule Britannia’ will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Box Office; viewers will get to see all the build-ups to the fights so boxing fans are sure to be entertained with a great night of highly entertaining fights.

Brook was initially hoping to make a fight with domestic rival Amir Khan on June 13th but Khan turned the fight down. The Bolton man will now turn his attention to a fight against American Chris Algieri on May 29th in Brooklyn, New York.
