Can Newham Cement Second Place?

Newham Flames take on Chelsea Handball club this coming Saturday. Joel Blakey takes a look ahead of the action.

With Oxford running away with the league, it leaves Newham, Islington and Chelsea jostling for positions. They have all beaten each other this season, and with Chelsea beating Newham in the reverse fixture, they will be hoping to repay the favour.

Head to head

Chelsea beat Newham earlier in the season at the Copperbox 19-13 in November. Instead of one player in particular to look out for in Chelsea’s team, it’s their ability as both an attacking and a defensive unit which makes them dangerous opposition. However, they will be looking to bounce back from their last game where they were beaten by league leaders Oxford 29-13

Key Player

Newham will be looking to their captain and top scorer Roy Edmans to lead them to victory in this one. His goals were so important last time when they beat Islington away from home and Edmans will be hoping to repeat that form on Saturday. He said:

“This is going to be a tough game for us, we’re hoping we can find a little bit more than last time, but we just couldn’t break them down. We’re obviously on a high after beating Islington so we’re going into this with lots of confidence, so we think we’ve got a good chance”

There’s no doubt this is a big game, whoever wins will feel they have a real chance of getting second place in the league with just a couple of game remaining. Catch all the action live from Chelsea at 2pm Saturday afternoon.
