Following West Ham under 21’s cup win against Fulham last week Holly Davies previews their rematch in this weekend’s league fixture…

This Friday, West Ham u21’s will face Fulham, who they beat 3-2 in the cup last week after twice coming from behind.

Speaking after the final whistle, coach Terry Westley told the club’s official homepage: “I’m delighted with the player’s commitment and desire.

Alex Song, who is still returning from injury, played in consecutive weeks for the under-21 side.

Youngster Dan Kemp got his first taste of development squad action after starting on the bench. The Hammers recently signed the 16-year-old on a long-term contract from Chelsea.

When the two teams met last Wednesday, it was Mathieu Smith who put the hosts in the lead, before Djair Parfitt-Williams equalized soon after.

Mattias Kait put Fulham back in front, but again The Hammers came back with a goal from top scorer, Elliot Lee.

After a goalless second half, the two teams had to play extra time, and a Lee penalty in the first half of extra time sealed the victory for the guests.

A delighted Lee told whufc.com: “We talked about that strength to come back from behind afterwards in the changing room, it shows the character we have in the squad. Everyone knows we started the season badly but we knew we’d turn that round.”

West Ham is currently fifth in the Division 2, with Fulham sitting eighth. Westley’s side can climb to fourth with a win on Friday.
