Can UEL 2nds End On A High?

Alex Barmpatzidis previews UEL Men’s 2nds last game of the campaign.

It is the final game of the season in this year’s BUCS Southern Eastern 4D and UEL men’s 2nds face University College London men’s 2nds. Hackney Marshes is the venue and kick off time is at 2 pm tomorrow (March 23rd).

Both teams will have different mentalities and different goals to achieve going into this game as UEL are staying put for next season. UCL on the other hand might still be in danger of getting relegated. Although UCL are not at the bottom of the table, according to league rules if an additional team needs to be relegated from the Southern Eastern 1A this could have an impact on the lower divisions.: UCL could be the ones to suffer.

The visitors have had a difficult season to say the least, losing their opening fixture away from home against the University of Essex 5-1. Unfortunately for them it got even worse as their first home game ended in 3-8 defeat to Universities at Medway, their heaviest defeat.

They took an entire month to finally get their first win over Canterbury Christ Church University men’s 2nds. They had to wait until February to get their next victory where in between they suffered a 0-7 defeat at home against Middlesex University men’s 2nds. That was their last victory of the season and now they are on the verge of getting relegated.

Worse

The worst part of the story is that even if they win over UEL they will be level on points with Essex 3rds but will still remain in fifth position as they have a worse goal difference. Their only hope to stay in the same division for next season is that only two teams get relegated from the Southern Eastern 1A.

UEL on the other hand are not fighting relegation but they are not in spot for a promotion. They are staying put for next season win, lose or draw.

They started their season away from home against Middlesex University men’s 1sts, a game which ended in a 1-1 draw, and in their first game at home they got their first win, a 3-1 victory over the University of Essex men’s 3rds. Their worst defeat of the season was against the University of Hertfordshire men’s 3rds with a 6-1 reverse.

From then on they enjoyed a stable season. They are sitting in third place with 13 points and that will be their position they finish the season, regardless of tomorrow’s result. Although this fixture will not change the outcome of the table UEL would like to finish the season on a high with more wins than defeats.

Earlier on the season when the two teams met it resulted in a 5-0 win for UEL That was East London’s biggest win of the season and they will be looking to repeat last time’s triumph and ending their year on a high.
