Capital Gains For Women’s Tour

Lucy-Rose Huggins previews the Women's Tour 2017

The Women’s 2017 Tour has announced its route for the cyclists. The five stages of the route will see the athletes ride through Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Derbyshire, and the final race in London.

Progression

Having the Mayor of London invite The Women’s 2017 tour to take their final race in London shows the event’s status has grown. Just three years on from its creation it is now part of the UCI Women’s World Tour and has the privilege of featuring the world’s top cycling teams.

This will be seen as a highlight of the sporting calendar, with this year’s route testing the cyclists to new levels of climbs. However, the cyclists will enjoy the beautiful scenery in the heart of England along with the spectacular London finish.

Excitement

Katie Archibald, Olympic champion, will be riding in the race with WNT Pro Cycling, and this will be her first time cycling since 2015. She told Cycling Weekly that she is both ‘excited and nervous for the opportunity to ride in The Women’s Tour.’ She added that it’s ‘One of the most competitive stage races.’

The Women’s Tour will start and end on Regent’s Street. However, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and Piccadilly Circus will be taken in multiple times over the course of the six-lap race.
