Greg Morley reports on the managerial merry-go-round…

Charlton Athletic have confirmed that 39-year-old Guy Luzon, formerly head coach of Standard Liege, has replaced Bob Peeters as head coach, just three days after the Belgian was sacked.

The Israeli has signed an 18-month deal with the club which runs through to the end of the 2015/16 season.

Luzon was odds-on favourite for the job, given that Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet also owns Standard Liege, who the new man took to second place in the Belgian league last season.

He was then dismissed by the club in October following a poor start to their campaign, but Luzon is relishing the task of managing in English football.

“It is important to have a positive spirit in the team and I want to ensure the entire group is fighting together for the good of the club,” Luzon said.

Duchatelet echoed those comments, and expressed his joy at the appointment, saying, “He is a passionate coach who will give his all to Charlton and I hope supporters will get behind him.”

Luzon’s first job is to prepare the side for a tricky away encounter against Watford on Saturday. The Addicks are without a win in nine matches in all competitions, and have slipped from sixth to fourteenth in just over two months.
