Charlton Making Steps to Knockout Stages

Jason Euell's side are back in Premier League Cup action this afternoon when they welcome Middleborough to the DGS Marine Stadium, write Shella Tshela.

A win for the Addicks this afternoon could lift them to the top of their group F table in which they currently sit third behind leaders Fulham and today’s opposition, Boro.

The last time these two teams met, Euell’s side was narrowly beaten 1-0. The Addicks have played three games in the Premier League Cup this season, drawing 3-3 against AFC Wimbledon, theh defeat against Boro and a crucial 3-1 win against the group leaders Fulham.

The Addicks were deserved winners against the Cottagers in their most recent outing in the League Cup. A double from Josh Umerah and a goal from Joe Aribo were enough to see off Fulham.

The win against the Cottagers moved Euell’s side a step closer into the next round, and a win today could see them progress to the knockout stages.

Euell’s side reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup last season and only missed out on a place in the last four against Huddersfield Town on a penalty shootout. The Addicks will be hoping to go a step further in the competition this year and reach the final.
