Speaking after the match, an angry Russell Slade didn’t hold back with his disappointment, “We didn’t deserve anything from today’s game. It’s game 16 for us and we’ve chosen that to put in our worst performance of the season, in all honesty.”

The Addicks’ poor away form, which has seen them win just one away fixture all season, continued as they fell victim to a comfortable Swindon victory.

Charlton who are missing four first-team regulars conceded in the 43rd minute due to a bizarre own goal from Charlton’s Morgan Fox, after Sean Murray’s tame shot rebounded off the Welshman’s heel to wrong-foot Declan Rudd in goal.

Swindon in charge

Five minutes into the second half disaster struck for the away side as they found themselves 2-0 down following a Swindon corner which was eventually converted by Liverpool-loanee Lloyd Jones.

Swindon continued to look the better of the two teams throughout much of the second half, controlling the pace of the match and creating more chances.

Charlton’s inability to forge any truly significant attempts on goal was evident for all to see at the County Ground and in the 86th minute they were punished on the break by a nice counter-attacking move finished off by Johnny Goddard’s close range effort.

The defeat for Charlton sees their recent unbeaten run come to end as they drop to 15th in the League One table and is the first game in which they’ve conceded more than two goals all season.

The Robbins’ fifth league win of the season moves them outside of the relegation zone into 19th position and the club will be hoping to start climbing up the table.

Three points for Swindon means that it was a winning start for newly-appointed director of football Tim Sherwood who was in attendance to watch his new club ease past Charlton. Sherwood watched from the stands but went into the Swindon changing room at half-time to talk to the players.

Slade Outraged

Slade was unable to hide his anger at the team’s performance in the press conference, “I apologise to our fans today because we were really poor. We need a reaction from that. Our form had been really good prior to today and I’m not sure where that has come from today. It’s disappointing.”

Charlton will be hoping to bounce back with a win over Port Vale next Saturday at The Valley to continue their three match winning streak at home.
