Come In For Coffee And You Won’t Want To Leave

Nika Jazaee gives maximum points to a café called Muxima.

Muxima is your local hipster café, if you live in Bow. They don’t have a sign outside, which makes it quite easy to walk by without even noticing you just passed the coolest café in the area. But maybe that’s the point: if you know, then you know.

For those who don’t, it’s at the end of the Roman Road market. You’ll know immediately when you’ve found it. This place is a feast for your eyes – the interior is a mix of salvaged, wooden wall panels and antique furniture. Every corner will surprise you with something you wouldn’t have thought of. It’s really hard to get bored in here, and there is a huge risk you might spend most of your day enjoying coffee and art (the walls are alive with painting and photography by local artists).

If that’s not reason enough to visit, Muxima is also open until midnight at least (the closing hours are a bit blurred, since they are happy to serve as long as customers want to stay).

You can have a glass of wine and enjoy some of their delicious tostadas, or have your morning espresso together with whole meal bread with poached organic egg. I would recommend the delightful tricolore bagel with cream cheese, vine tomato and house pesto.

Depending on the time of day, Muxima is a mix of restaurant and café, with as few rules as possible and absolutely no uniforms. The people who work there make an effort to get to know what you want – it’s my third visit and already the waitress knows how I like my coffee.

Now that’s what makes you feel like one of the family.

Please, don’t all go there at once or you’ll crowd out one of my favourite cafés in London.

5 out of 5 tomatoes
