Dagenham Lose At Home Yet Again

The Daggers are still searching for their first home win since April 2015, after The Cobblers fought back to win 2-1 in East London, as Youcef Dahmani reports.

Dagenham were denied what would have been a third win in a row, as Northampton Town came back to score two quick second half goals. John-Joe O’Toole and Ricky Holmes cancelled out Christian Doidge’s opener.

Dagenham started brightly, and Nottingham Forest loanee Joe Worral was denied a goal on his home debut, with his header cleared off the line.

Doidge somehow managed to miss a glorious chance. The Welshman found himself one-on-one with keeper Adam Smith, who managed to make a fingertip save.

It continued to look positive for the East Londoners, and it took 20 minutes for Northampton to get their first real chance. Sam Hoskins took a shot from just outside the box, however Mark Cousins managed to keep out Hoskins’s effort.

There was a slight worry from the bench as Oliver Muldoon clashed in mid-air with O’Toole in a 50/50 duel, however he was fine to carry on.

Ashley Chambers had a goal disallowed, after a fine cross from Ashley Hemmings found his head, however Chamber had strayed offside.

The promotion-chasing visitors came very close to scoring, as Zander Diamond got a free header in the centre of the box, which was deflected out for a corner.

Stealing

Doidge was close to stealing the first goal during injury time of the first half. He went through on goal and beat the keeper to the ball, however his attempted lob went over the goal.

The Cobblers came out more confident in the second half. Lee Martins’ speculative effort came close to dipping into the back of the net.

Oliver Muldoon opened up the Northampton defence with a delightful ball, allowing Chambers to run through onto goal. However, his low shot was comfortably saved by the Cobblers’ stopper.

Even though the Daggers’ didn’t come out with the same momentum as the first half, they still managed to take the lead in the 62nd minute. Doidge tapped the ball into the back of the net after Josh Passley played the ball across to the Welsh striker.

The lead lasted eight minutes, with O’Toole able to slot the ball home from close range. In the 79th minute, things went from bad to worse for the Daggers. Ricky Holmes smashed in a volley beating Cousins in the top right corner.

The Daggers were unable to get an equaliser even though John Still threw on attacking players in the closing stages. This leaves Dagenham still searching for a home win this season.
