Daggers Denied

A last gasp equaliser from the National League side’s substitute Jordan Rose kept both Dagenham & Redbridge and Whitehawk in the hat for the FA cup third round draw, as Youcef Dahmani reports.

Dagenham, who went 1-0 up thanks a first half strike from Jamie Cureton, were unable to see the tie out with a replay to be played next Tuesday (Dec 15th).

Whoever wins that match faces a mouth-watering tie against Premier League Everton

Veteran.

Jamie Cureton got the home team up and running in the fifth minute. The veteran found himself taking a few touches in the middle of the penalty area before slotting it under Craig Ross.

Joss Labadie fired a free kick from 25 yards out, however Ross put it over the crossbar and out for a corner. Clevid Dikamona came close to scoring the second after he headed just wide.

James Dunne, on loan from Portsmouth, had a shot from outside the box after a set piece taken by Andre Boucaud.

Danny Mills had a shot from just outside the box, but was easily caught by Mark Cousins, who was not tested very often half way through the first half by the visitors.

The visitors thought they got themselves back into the game after Arnaud Mendy put the ball into the net after Dean Leacock hit the bar, however he was ruled offside.

One way traffic

The Hawks continued to pile the pressure at the end of the first half, however they found no way past Cousins in the Daggers goal.

Labadie wriggled his way through the defence in the 57th minute, but was tackled at the last and the ball ended up into the hands of the Hawks stopper.

The Hawks continued to pile the pressure throughout the second half. Substitute Dave Martin crossed in from the left, but Mendy volleyed it just wide of goal in the 76th minute.

Hawks’ striker Mills, who has scored in every round of the competition so far, then had a glorious chance. However, he hit the post as it looked like the Daggers would scrape through the tie.

The equaliser eventually came to second half substitute Rose, as his header from very close range went right into the top right-hand corner.
