Simon Eaves previews this weekend’s match for the Daggers against Shrewsbury…

Dagenham & Redbridge will want to build on their draw against Wycombe Wanderers last weekend.

The Daggers face tricky opponents in Shrewsbury Town who managed to give a second-string £100 million Chelsea side a run for their money in an unlucky 2-1 loss in the Capital One Cup in midweek.

The Shrews are coming to Victoria Road on the back of a 2-1 victory over Portsmouth at the Bescot Stadium, and have won their last five in the league.

Sitting 19th in the Sky Bet League Two table, the Daggers need to build on their two home wins this season and make sure they pick points up at home.

The Daggers need goals against a solid Shrewsbury backline and star man Jamie Cureton, who hit his 264th career goal last weekend, told BBC London 94.9 he wants to hit 300 career goals: “I know it is quite a way off but if I play another two years, there is a chance.”

Cureton is one of two Daggers players – with Joss Labadie – who are facing a former employer – both played for the Shrews in 2009.

Victoria Road will not be seeing Abumere Ogogo at the weekend as he is serving his last match of his suspension. They could, however, be about to welcome back Rhys Murphy whose spent nine months on the side lines. He played 90minutes in a 2-0 win against Barkingside in the Essex Senior Cup.

Murphy told the club’s website: “I’d love to be involved, there’s no chance I’ll be starting and we’ve got good players who can score goals up front at the moment, they’re rightfully playing.”

As for the head to head the two have met seven times. Shrewsbury have only lost once against Dagenham which was a 5-0 loss in the league in 2009/10 season. Bar this anomaly, the Shrews have won six and drawn the other fixture.
