Daobry Aims for Tokyo

Lucy Huggins speaks to Vanessa ‘Nessa’ Daobry about her goal to reach the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Vanessa ‘Nessa’ Daobry, an F34 shot putter, is dreaming big after Rio 2016.

Born in North London with a neurological impairment, Vanessa continues to have a positive outlook on life and encourages all to pursue their own dreams with the stories of her life achievements and future goals.

Although Vanessa has only been competing for the F34 shot put for 22 months, she rapidly rose to the top of the sport and represented Great Britain in the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

However, back in 2015 she did not always envision herself as the powerful thrower for team GB. She earned her GB place after throwing her lifetime best of 7.21m in Bedford. After that, Vanessa said, “I didn’t get into sport for sport. I wanted to become stronger in my arms and pushing my chair.”

Potential

But as time went on Nessa’s potential became abundantly obvious. She felt more comfortable in her body as a thrower and soon became the true athlete she is, with even coming fourth in the world in her F34 classification.
Now with all her past triumphs in the last two years, she continues to dream bigger and better.

Coming back from Rio an improved and more confident athlete, training harder than ever before, she is hopeful of her future and progression to the 2020 Paralympics Games in Tokyo.

Phenomenal’

Asked about her plans for the future and if she wanted to be at the next Paralympics Games in Tokyo she says “Hell yeah! I want Tokyo. The experience from Rio was just phenomenal. I want that again.”

The confidence and positivity that exudes from ‘Nessa is truly inspiring. Her determination and self-assurance, fills anyone in her company with bundles of hope and anticipation to cheer her on for the next four years, of hard training and development all the way to 2020.
