Dimi Aims To Light Up Essex

Former England medium pace bowler Dimitri Mascarenhas joins the Essex coaching staff. George Geaves reports.

Essex have named Dimitri Mascarenhas as their new assistant coach ahead of the 2018 season.

Mascarenhas joins Essex as Anthony McGrath’s right-hand man for the upcoming season and the Essex coach shared his delight at Mascarenhas’ appointment in a statement:

“We have been looking for someone with Dimi’s credentials, and having worked in competitions around the world, he brings with him a lot of knowledge and experience.”

Experience

The former Hampshire all rounder played 34 times for England in white-ball cricket but never received a test call up for the national side.

He was known primarily for his economical medium-pace bowling, but he often caught the eye with some explosive lower-order batting.

Mascarenhas boasts an impressive coaching CV, with stints in the IPL, Big Bash and The Australian Super Smash, as well as his most recent role as New Zealand’s bowling coach.

McGrath gave his thoughts via the official site on how his bowlers can feed off Mascarenhas’ experience

“I know our bowlers are looking forward to working with him, and the whole squad will benefit from his technical and tactical knowledge “

Mascarenhas has vast experience in County Cricket, playing 195 first class games for Hampshire, so his input will be valuable for Essex as they bid to emulate their triumphant 2017 campaign.

The 40-year- old shared his thoughts on his appointment with Essex CCC:

“I’m really excited to be joining Essex as Assistant Head Coach. I have heard they are a really talented group of players and I am looking forward to getting over to Chelmsford to contribute to more success this season.”

Mascarenhas in an exciting appointment for Essex and he is sure to help the players at the club in their development.
