Harvey Clare reports as Charlton U21’s come from behind to draw against Ipswich and maintain their unbeaten run.

Chris Miller got on the score sheet for the Addicks, while Adam McDonnell scored for the visitors.

Ipswich got off to a quick start as three minutes into the game, Adam McDonnell’s corner was handballed by Charlton’s Josh Umerah leading to a penalty being awarded. Umerah was fortunate to escape disciplinary action.

McDonnell stepped up to take the penalty and slotted it past goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov.

Ipswich could have added another a minute later when Alex Henshall broke away from the Charlton defence but his shot just went over the crossbar.

Jason Euell’s men managed their first chance of the game in the 20th minute when Captain Joshua Staunton headed a corner straight into Ipswich’s Michael Crowe.

Charlton had an opportunity to equalise just before half time when Archie Edwards delivered an excellent cross from a set piece, but the Addicks were unable to capitalise.

Another opportunity from Ipswich minutes later, after McDonnell played in James Alabi, was met by an equally great save from Charlton’s Dimitar Mitov.

Charlton came out fighting early in the second half when Archie Edwards’s corner found the head of Joshua Staunton but Crowe made an acrobatic save to prevent the equaliser.

In the 54th minute Jason Euell’s men finally broke the deadlock. Mikhail Kennedy ran down the left wing and cut the ball back to Chris Miller who converted a easy opportunity to make it 1-1.

Chances where coming thick and fast as Ipswich could have made it 2-1 when Dylan Connolly’s header was inches away from going in.

Charlton missed another opportunity to win the game when Alex Kelly played through Kennedy but his shot sky-rocketed over the crossbar.

The Addicks were really pushing for the win. Alex Kelly played an amazing 30-yard through ball to Joe Aribo who left the defenders dead with his pace but his right shot only managed to hit the post.

Charlton’s next game sees them face Cray Wanderers in the second round of the Kent Senior Cup.
