The 26th edition of the Marrakech half marathon took place ilast month and among the over 8,000 participants from across the world were 16 athletes from Whitechapel.

The group took part in this prestigious event to raise funds to help Muslim Charity’s grassroots work in supporting vulnerable street children in the capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka. The team arrived safely, including the head of the fundraising team, Harun Rashid.

Upon their arrival,  Rashid and the athletes enjoyed a few days off to have some time to relax and prepare. They were thankful for all the supporters who made their journey a success.

Speaking to The Docklands and East London Advertiser, one of the runners Abdal Ahmed said: “We have a beautiful country, and a beautiful cause. I request everyone’s well wishes for a successful trip and thank all our sponsors for their tremendous support.”

The Muslim Charity was founded over 15 years ago. The charity has touched millions of vulnerable lives with the development of projects without racial, religious or linguistic discrimination.

The magical town of Marrakesh offered an exceptional setting for the marathon runners with a very mild climate and a beautiful circuit considered as one of the fastest in the world.

Achievements

The team of runners completed the Marrakech half marathon and were satisfied with their achievements.

The team ran at different paces to complete the race within three hours and 15 minutes. Hannan was the first one to cross the finish line out of the team with a personal best of one hour and 41 minutes.

Irfan Rajput, at the age of 54 years, was the oldest runner in the group and finished the race in three hours and 10 minutes.

The team deemed their participation in the marathon a success, because they achieved their aim of creating the awareness and raising funds for the Muslim Charity drive.
