Jack Giordmaina reports on an exciting motorsport initiative…

Six East London schools will take part in the first-ever Formula E in Schools London event on 27 and 28 June.

All Saints Catholic School, Colfeā€™s School, Elutec (East London University Technical College), Horn Park with support from Rokeby School, Little Ilford School and Royal Greenwich University Technical College are the lucky candidates that will race round the streets of Battersea Park.

Each school will now pick a team of three boys and three girls to take part in this project, with their kit cars will set to be delivered this week. Following the arrival of their equipment the schools can begin work on the build process and start planning their testing schedules.

The program is in conjunction with UK-based charity Greenpower and works alongside the recently launched FIA Formula E championship that is based on fully-electric cars. The aim of the series is to provide students with a practical activity that encourages them to become engaged in engineering, with particular attention being paid to the importance of sustainable energy.

In addition, the experience will allow students to get a taste of what it is like to work in a motorsport environment, as well as giving them a platform to go on and study engineering in higher education.

Argentina and Miami have already hosted the first two rounds, with races upcoming in California and Berlin before the finale in London.
