Easter Is The Time To Resurrect Your Inner Child

Miss Carrot dictates what to do with yourself at Easter. Nika Jazaee took notes.

Enough with preaching what Easter really stands for. Regardless of religion or culture, Easter holidays have a lot to offer everyone… except for those of you who cannot stand little bunnies or painted egg shells, in which case you had better look away.

I have compiled a nice and tidy list of things to do in East London during your Easter break. Yes, you should go East during Easter; but South East is close enough to qualify!

To start with, since we all have an inner child, please let the little fella out at some point between 25 – 28 March, by joining the Easter egg hunt taking place on the good ship Cutty Sark in Greenwich. Hopefully they will allow adults… wait, I haven’t thought this one through.  Oh well, you can give it a try:

Once you’ve raised your heartbeat by running around on a ship pretending to be a bunny mom looking for holy eggs, it will be time to feed your body. Now this is my favorite part, as food means a lot to me. I have been very picky when choosing the ultimate place for you, Dear Reader, to dine in. In my humble opinion, the absolute winner is  South Place Hotel in Liverpool Street. They have Easter set menus for you with 2/3 courses. English muffin with poached egg and hollandaise sauce filled with smoked salmon – how does that sound for a starter? Makes me terribly hungry. Or a main course of  ‘Longhorn rump burger’? I don’t even know what that means, but it must be delish.

Then there’s the Goat Race – eehhm… yes, the goat race, taking place in the Spitalfields City Farm. Whether you’re tired of bunnies, eggs and so forth, or perhaps it’s just that you find goats really quite interesting, you need to check out this event. This is the eighth year they’ve done it and it’s becoming more popular each time. It is literally two goats, one representing Oxford University, and one Cambridge – racing. The race takes place at some point between 2pm and 5pm. I think it’s on the same day as the slightly more famous Boat Race. They don’t know the actual time, because the goats are still in charge of their own motivation. Meantime you can explore some refreshments and other good (goat) stuff. I am putting this one into my own diary – see you there!

Now that we are well fed and full of Easter spirit, we should take a stroll down to the free-entry Easter Ceramics Sale at Turning Earth in Hoxton. This is where you will find 42 artists from London’s largest ceramics studio. The venue will be set up with live music and the artists will sell their work but also offer live demonstration of various techniques they use. http://www.turningearth.uk

But please note that this last event takes place on Holy Saturday BEFORE some of the other events previously mentioned. It’s just how it is in the topsy-turvy world of Miss Carrot.

I must give myself some credit for being so very creative (if you want straightforward information, there’s always Time Out or the Evening Standard).

Happy Easter from Miss C.
