French Formula One driver Roman Grosjean will compete at this year’s Race of Champions, as Oliver Rudgewick reports.

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will be welcoming another star of the track with Roman Grosjean taking part in the Race of Champions next month.

Grosjean has a good record in the competition, winning the title in Bangkok in 2012.

That year Grosjean saw off Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen in the Grand Final, having beaten F1 world champions Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel in quick succession along the way.

‘Driving Heaven’

The Frenchman who will move to Hass F1 after four seasons at Lotus F1 is relishing his return to the Race of Champions at the Olympic Park.

Speaking to the official ROC site, Grosjean said: “I’m delighted to be coming back…This is a great event and there are so many reasons that we all want to return every year.”

“The main thing is that everyone involved just loves racing and driving different cars – so trying out such a wide range of machinery is driving heaven for all of us.”

Grosjean earnt his first Formula One seat in 2009 for Renault taking over from Nelson Piquet Jr. His debut was at the 2009 European Grand Prix.

After a less than impressive first year Grosjean moved to Auto GP in 2010 which he won by 16 points, and later returned to GP2 for the 2011 season.

On his return to GP2 Grosjean joined the DAMS team and replaced injured driver Ho-Pin Tung for the remainder of the season.

Best of the best

2012 was his first full season with DAMS and he was successful in both the GP2 Asia Series and the GP2 series, beating Jules Bianchi and Luca Filippi respectively.

Grosjean signed up with newly renamed Louts Racing in 2012 alongside 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen.

Grosjean has had 10 podiums since his return to Formula One which led him to finish eighth in the Driver’s Championship in 2012 and seventh in the 2013 championship.

Grosjean will be competing against fellow Formula One stars including; Sebastian Vettel, Nico Hulkenburg, Daniel Ricciardo and Felipe Massa.
