At least 350 Charlton supporters made the 500-mile round trip through the streets of Duchâtelet’s home town on the 4th of March as they protested against Duchâtelet’s reign at the London club.

Plead

Ongoing Charlton fan group, CARD (Coalition Against Ronald Duchâtelet) set up the event and brought in local Sint-Truiden supporters who recently set up their own anti Duchâtelet campaign group for this protest called GRAS.

Like Charlton, they are urging their richest owner in the clubs history, to run take the running seriously or to sell his shares.

Mockery

Clive Harris, one of the 350 Charlton supporters who made the trip is tired of the treatment that the club has received,

“We just want to continue to make it clear to Duchâtelet that while he continues to embarrass and humiliate us as a section of society, we will continue to embarrass him.”

The protest could be seen as the most media covered yet as local Belgium newspaper, Het Belang Van Limburg have publicly backed the event.

Alongside this, CARD have collaborated with the Metropolitan Police in London to insure their safety whilst abroad.

Safety concern

A CARD spokesperson said: “We are pleased that the local authorities have recognised our right to protest in Sint-Truiden and will now work with them on the details to ensure that this a safe but effective demonstration. We are also grateful to the Met for their help.

“People are protesting because they are passionate about Charlton and angry at the long-term damage being done to the club under his ownership and Katrien Meire’s management.”

Charlton currently sit 16th in League One as they take on 3rd place Scunthorpe on Tuesday night. A win for the East-London side could see them move up two spots to 14th place.
