Final Farewell – Last Game Of The Season For UEL Hockey

This Wednesday University of East London are set to compete in the last game of the 2017/18 BUCS season, Teri Dormer previews.

This final hockey match of the 2017/18 BUCS season is finally here! The concluding game takes place away against University College London at Southgate Hockey Centre.

University of East London have been on a rollercoaster the past few weeks, falling from second place to third by losing to Queen Marys two weeks ago was such a devastating turn of events but now UEL are fighting to secure joint second place in the last encounter of the season.

The Competition

A win for the last game of the season will be a great way to end the year. The rival team, UCL, have remained bottom of the league throughout the season so on paper it should be an easy challenge for UEL.

The last time both teams met UEL secured their first win in two years; the score was 3-0. UCL have lost all three of their played games this season, so the boys in blue are confident of securing a win.

Bitter Sweet

Queen Mary are three points above UEL so a win for the East Londoners will mean they can finish joint second, however a draw or loss will mean 3rd place will be UEL’s finishing position of the tier 5 North East London BUCS League.

At the start of the New Year UEL were fighting to steal the top spot from City 1st, but so much has changed over the last few weeks and UEL need to be on their top performance in order to finish the league with pride.

UEL have been in second position throughout the season, however their previous match had a devastating impact on the team as Queen Mary crept up and swiftly stole second position from the east London blues.

A victory on Wednesday will be bitter sweet with UEL securing a second place finish in the league.

Captain Isaac Charles, as a second year student, will be continuing to play next season. Although sad to be letting a few key players and friends leave the team, he is positive and the team are prepared for the match on Wednesday.

“This game is our opportunity to give the third years a game to remember with positivity, after a disappointing season where we didn’t achieve our goal, we can instead use this game to help build for next season, trialing new positions for our second years so we can prepare for varsity and next season”.

UEL are confident about Wednesdays fixture, the match will kick off at 4:30pm.
