There ain’t no stopping the boss of The Apprentice, reports Emma Brand.
Lord Alan Sugar: businessman, football fan, constant Tweeter. Who would have expected the last of these (apart from his followers, of course)?
(This is definitely a harder column to write. It seems every time I finish it Lord Sugar Tweets something new so I have to update it.)
He has been plugging products from his former apprentices including Apprentice winner Leah Totton’s new Botox clinic: “If you’re from Essex, no need to go into London for @DrLeahClinics treatment. Loughton clinic NOW OPEN 020 7877 5999”, and Tropic Skin Care’s new range of product “Luxurious goodness for your skin without harming the environment @TropicSkinCare”.
Lord Sugar uses his header photo to promote his books What You See Is What You Get, The Way I See it and Unscripted: My Ten Years In Telly. He uses his bio to reaffirm that he is “Chairman of Amshold Group, owner of @Amscreen and Amsprop.” Just in case there was anyone who didn’t know who.
Previous rivalry with Piers Morgan is still being referred to, with Sugar sarcastically saying: “Gosh asked @piersmorgan to thank me for continuing to lose bets. I don’t know what’s worse losing or him kissing me.”
Even online he can’t escape his catchphrase “you’re fired”, with thousands of people still Tweeting it to him on a regular basis. He blocks almost anyone who says it to him, but this hasn’t stopped him gaining a highly respectable following of 5.09 million.
There is also a mentoring aspect to Lord Sugar’s online activity, as in: “If you want the latest vacancies in scientists & engineering fed straight to your Twitter feed, follow @Hyperec_HRS”
There isn’t much mention of his TV show The Apprentice, which I found really surprising. Maybe he is moving his social networks over to other parts of his life.
Not that he’s going to ‘fire’ the show, I’m sure.
