First Impressions Of East London

What does London look like if you are freshly arrived from the Philippines?

Trizia Nicole (24) found Mile End hard to get used to, having come from a beautiful sea side town in the Philippines together with her mother and 20-year-old sister.

Luckily for Trizia and her family they have a visa which grants them indefinite leave to remain. Though not classed as aliens by the authorities, London can still be an alienating place if you don’t know your way around, as Trizia explained.

“As I was used to living in a small town, Mile End was a very stressful place but eventually I got used to the new environment and to be honest, I ended up enjoying living near Shoreditch, a place where I went on to work.

“I couldn’t help but notice how multicultural this place really is. Here, I meet people from all parts of the world, especially at Tower Hamlets College.”
