Tinchy Stryder has a big appetite for selling himself, observes Emma Brand.
Tinchy Stryder, real name Kwasi Danquah, was born in Ghana and moved to East London as a child.
His Twitter account is mainly used for promoting his merchandise. Recently he pinned a Tweet at the top of his profile with a link to his latest music video. He has also been retweeting people that post links to his video, eight in 24 hours to be exact, including “**NEW POST** [Music Video] Tinchy Stryder (@TinchyStryder) – ‘Leg Day Ft. D Double E (@DDoubleE7)’ http://wp.me/p1fcHo-86E #Grime”.
He gives his location as the fictional place “Cloud 9”. This makes you think that he must love his job and his life. Maybe so, but Cloud 9 is the title of his album, which he is also trying to promote: “Download my new album The Cloud 9 LP / 360° on iTunes now: http://smarturl.it/TheCloud9-LP . Love”
In his bio, Tinchy calls himself “The Prince of Grime” and gives his 760k followers links to where they can contact his management, and links to where you can pre-order his latest recording.
Away from sales talk, Tinchy might have been hinting that someone lost touch with him, when they probably shouldn’t have, when he wrote: “Don’t burn bridges. Can you walk on water?!”
He has also been using social media to ask for information from his followers, as in this appeal: “Morning… A Massage is calling my name real loud, I can’t lie lol. Think I need a new spot tho, any suggestions? Ps. In London”
Suggest it might be quicker to Google, but perhaps what he really, really wants is the interaction.
