. . . But could Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink be the man in the frame? Harvey Clare reviews a week of upheaval at The Valley

Charlton Athletic have hired Karel Fraeye as the clubs interim coach, following the dismissal of head coach Guy Luzon.

The South-East London club terminated Luzon’s contract following the poor start to the 2015-16 campaign with the Addicks only managing 10 points in 13 games. The 3-0 defeat to Brentford last weekend proved to be the final straw for the club’s owner Roland Duchâtelet.

Fraeye will be joined by fellow Belgian Wim De Corte as assistant head coach while the club looks for a permanent manager. Fraeye is no stranger to Charlton, as he helped the club stay in the Championship towards the end of the 2013-14 season when he worked under José Riga.

The duo recorded seven wins and three draws in the final 16 games to secure an 18th place finish, seven points off the relegation zone.

Fraeye’s appointment means he becomes the club’s second Belgium manager in three years, hired by the Belgian chairman Duchâtelet.

One name which has been linked with the permanent job is Burton Albion’s Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. The former Dutch international has had a magnificent start to the season, leading Burton to the top of the Sky Bet League 1, and has also picked up a manager of the month award.

For now Fraeye is in charge, and preparing the team to take on high flying Middlesbrough at The Riverside this weekend

A win would help the Addick’s climb four places into 17th if results go in their favour, as the club look for their first victory in 10 league games.
