Gallagher Downs Brown

Rob Wheeler sees the UEL boxing scholar record an impressive victory, though the fighter was in a self-critical mood

24 year old Repton boxer Conail Gallagher made a winning return to the ring after a year-long lay off on Friday night at East Ham Working Man’s club.

The fight was stopped in the second round after Gallagher put Omnibus fighter Justice Brown down twice.

In the first 30 seconds of round one Justice was able to use his footwork and combinations to keep Gallagher at bay. However the 24-year-old showed great character to get back into the fight.

Brown was put on the canvas 50 seconds into the second round before Gallagher continued to pile the pressure on his opponent, dropping him again with a body shot late on in the second round which Brown was not able to recover from.

Despite the win Gallagher was critical of his performance, “I didn’t feel I could get my combinations together at first, I was a bit stiff, he was quite slick so I needed to time my shots and punch with him”

He added “I’m glad to get the win, now onwards and upwards.”

Gallagher will continue to work on his fitness and hopes to fight again in the next few weeks.
