Get The Surge Without The Sugar

Help yourself to a Protein Haus health kick, says Molly Horne.

Whether you’re a fitness fanatic, avocado advocate or just somebody whose stomach clenches at the thought of drinking anything green, the health kick craze has well and truly taken off in East London.

Queue Protein Haus, the Canary Wharf-based health food specialist supplying city-types with a stream of clean treats, cooked meals and dietician’s advice. Established on Reuters Plaza since July, the high protein health shack supports most dietary regimes including vegan, weight loss, paleo, low carb and raw – besides catering for casual punters looking for a nutritious lunch-time pick-me-up.

Mouth-watering protein shakes, cold pressed juices and gym-junkie favourite Quest Bars are just a few of the supplements that Protein Haus has on offer.

Carli Wheatley, Reebok Sports Club personal trainer and founder of Protein Haus, says she aims to ‘educate, empower and support’ her customers by producing a protein-rich menu packed with guilt free deliciousness.

Wheatley has concocted the Wharf’s favourite Lean PB shake: a luscious blend of almond milk, banana, vanilla protein and God’s gift to the taste buds – peanut butter!

‘With protein shakes, everyone likes ingredients that taste nice and things that are a bit naughty,’ she notes, before pointing out that all Protein Haus shakes come in at under 200 calories each.

‘The best protein shakes in London,’ is the Haus boast – and in my judgement, they’re not far off.

Blueberries and spinach? I would have thought worse than chalk and cheese, but after diving into the PH4 Berry Smoothie my delightfully flabbergasted taste buds urged me on. Blended with almond milk, crushed ice and vanilla whey protein, the PH4 is an extreme shake that takes the biscuit (without the sugar).

By night, Protein Haus hosts training sessions at Crossrail Place – an intense evening of fat burning activities such as boxing, running and circuit boot camps.

Next week your intrepid reporter will be taking the Protein Haus Challenge – watch this space!
