Golby: There Was No Discipline!

Jordan Parsons reports on the Barking manager’s reaction to his side’s 4-3 defeat to Stansted at home.

A furious Glen Golby blamed bad defending and a lack of discipline after seeing his side fall to a surprise defeat at the weekend.

The Blues were reduced to nine men after James Peagram and Joel Barnett were sent off in a hotly contested game, which could have seen Barking climb back up to third in the table.

It was a game that should have seen Barking take a share of the spoils, particularly after they were brought back to level terms late in the game to make it 3-3.

Golby blamed the result on “bad defending in the first half and discipline – well, discipline went out. We had a boy sent off for reacting when he doesn’t need to react and the second one I don’t think is a sending-off.”

Barnett received his marching orders after lashing out at a Stansted player after he was brought down when about to break through on goal.

Peagram was sent off after a poor challenge on the half way line which sent the Stansted players into a rage. Players from both teams swarmed the referee, and during this Peagram allegedly spat at Stansted’s Matt Gill.

The Blues’ manager believes that the referee was inconsistent during the game and that the 80th minute dismissal of Peagram was a defining moment, adding, “nine times out of 10 it’s a yellow card, but the referee gave a red. Their player did the same thing and got away with a yellow.”

The Blues are guaranteed a fourth-place finish, outside the promotion spots, and will not be happy with this end to the season, particularly as they were three points behind first-placed FC Romania just a few weeks ago.

Barking travel to Basildon United on the 28th of April for their last game of the season in what is expected to be a strong showing from a Barking side with something to prove.
