Oliver Rudgewick reports from the final round of the Ducati Tri Options Cup at Brands Hatch.

Despite an end of season victory, Rainham’s Rob Guiver missed out the Ducati Tri-Options Cup. Going into the final race weekend at Brands Hatch, Guiver needed a miracle to overturn Robbie Brown’s championship lead of 36 points with just 50 on offer.

Guiver qualified second for the first race and on lap one managed to gain the lead by overtaking Brown.

He extended the gap to Brown, and in the process broke the lap record with a time of 1.30.543. Despite a late resurgence from Brown, Guiver held on to take the chequered flag first and won the race by half a second.

Having already lost the championship Guiver had to focus on finishing third in the standings. The 30-year old helped his chances by qualifying on pole for the second race.

However, a poor first lap saw Guiver drop back to third. Guiver got into a rhythm mid-way through the race, and on the eighth lap Guiver pulled himself up to second place where he ended the race and his season.

Guiver eventually finished third in the Ducati Tri Option Cup with 250 points, 36 points behind champion Robbie Brown.
