Holly Davies reports on one young Hammer’s move.

West Ham United left-back Stephen Hendrie has joined Southend United on an emergency loan until Tuesday 16 February.

The Scottish U21 international has featured regularly for the Development Squad and has impressed with his consistency in defence during his 12 appearances since signing for the Hammers in the summer.

Hendrie took to his Instagram account to comment on the loan, saying “delighted to sign a short loan deal with Southend United, looking forward to the games coming up and kicking on up the league”.

Hendrie joined Phil Brown’s side in time to face Peterborough United and he came up against fellow young hammer Martin Samuelsen. Hendrie started at left back, but it wasn’t the best start for the Scot as he conceded a penalty and picked up a yellow card. His mistake was cancelled out by David Bentley’s penalty save, as the game ended 0-0.
