London-based female rock band Hey, Charlie! performed their first ever headline gig at the tightly-packed, lowly-lit backroom of Dalston’s Shacklewell Arms last week Thursday – and boy did they have fun!

The band of blondies are a real throwback to your rebellious Mean Girls / St Trinian’s days. Fresh off touring with American alt-rock band All Time Low, they seem to have learned a few live tricks.

Their hit singles ‘Hey!’ and ‘Young & Lonesome’ embody the whole punky, grungy, rocky, 90’s vibe perfectly, and were well-received by a crowd of loyal, drunk followers. The girls looked like seasoned vets as they owned the stage with their presence, even interacting with tipsy fans on a number of occasions, they put on a real show.

Formed back in 2015 whilst studying in London, Lizz, the guitarist & vocialist, and Sophie, the bassist & vocalist, instantly hit it off and began recording music before recruiting the drummer Lauren. The girls are a genuine breath of fresh-air in a jarringly repetitive rock scene.

Hey Charlie are on the rise. They even featured at Kerrang!’s ‘Fresh Blood’ night in October. We’ll definitely see more of these girls.
