Hole In One For London

Sebastian Kay previews the inaugural London Open Golf Championships that take place between 15th-17th June and feature Chingford based, West Essex Golf Club…

This two day event will attract some of the best players in the region along with some high profile names on the European and Senior Tour.

From a field of 110, the top 40-50 will qualify to take part in a Pro-Am competition the day after the tournament ends.

The field of 110 will contain the winner of this year’s Junior London Open, 14 year old Connor Sattaur from the West Essex Golf Club.

Connor, a right handed player who has a handicap of 9.4 won the Junior competition at his home club on a tie, but because his handicap was higher than his opponent’s, he claimed the tournament victory.

“I wasn’t expecting to win, it was my first competition of the year, I just played really well”, he said.

Now heading into the adult scene for the first time in his young career, he’s staying calm and carrying on with his weekly routine by practicing on the range and working on his short game.

Sattaur isn’t letting his excitement get the better of him by talking about his expectations of the London Open; “I just hope I can play the best I can, I’m going to be very nervous on the day with it being my first adult tournament and hopefully position around 60-80″.”

Chris Baron, Head Golf Professional at the West Essex Golf Club believes the London Open will an event that inspires the next generation of golfers; “This is a unique opportunity for a young up and coming star to mix his/her skills with the top pros. We are such a junior friendly club and looking at the talent coming through we thought it would add a nice spin to this wonderful event”.”
