Harvey Clare reports on an important fixture for the Addicks’ season, as they go head to head in a south-east London derby with Millwall.

Leaders Charlton Athletic take on third-placed Millwall tomorrow, and a win for the home side would leave them nine points clear at the top of the U18’s Professional Development League 2 – South table.

Millwall, however, will look to secure a victory and move above Watford into second place and send a reminder to last season’s champions that they are still in the title race.

Steve Avory’s men are in great scoring form at the moment as they’ve netted three goals against their last two opponents, Ipswich Town and Colchester United. The Lions are on an unbeaten run of five games.

Millwall will be looking to stop Charlton midfielder and captain George Lapslie in order to win the game, as he is the Addicks creative force. The midfielder is seen as a key player in the side and one of the top contributors to the side being top of the league.

George Lapslie told Rising East what he was expecting from the game against Millwall and what his team has to do in order to win the fixture.

“This will be a very tough game for us, having played them twice so far and winning both times, they’ll be looking for revenge.” One of those games ended with a penalty shootout in the third round of the FA youth cup.

“We have to be up for it and be on the front foot to everything if possible, it’s key that we take our chances early on and take the fire out of their stomach early, although we know that won’t be easy” Lapslie said.

Preparations have been key. Charlton have been running through training sessions based around the system that Millwall play.
