East London Life In A Day: They Only Come Out At Night

Sam Curry visited Studio 338 to get a good look at East London’s creatures of the night.

London is a city full of a variety of different people, trends and cultures, and home to some of the most influential fashion in the world.

When the city comes alive at night, people go out and dress to express their own individual styles and embrace who they are through fashion.

From drag queens in Soho, to gothic and grunge in Camden, you’re bound to see something new every time.

I went on a mission to Studio 338 in East London, a rooftop rave venue, home to everything deep house and techno.

My aim was to pick out some of the most stylish, individually dressed people at the club and gain insight into why they dress the way they do.

As expected, the club was full of young people eager to express themselves and their own personal styles through the way that they dress. No two people at the club were dressed the same.

From speaking to various people in and around the club, it was clear that for some reason people feel that at a rave it’s their chance to wear whatever they want, vintage, new or a bit of both, and still be able to fit in.

One girl said “I love going out in London to raves because you can look however you want and no one cares. Everyone talks to each other and compliments each other on how they look, even if they have a completely different style. I love being able to wear all my retro and vintage clothes out!”

Here are my favourite ‘spots’ from that night.

Who said you can’t mix and match prints?! Hollie’s gold silk vintage shirt, leather pinafore dress and fluffy backpack match perfectly, not forgetting the gold hoop earrings to compliment the outfit. Hollie’s inspiration for her style is vintage clothing and charity shop finds!

Tanya decided to go for the simple, metallic look to compliment her blonde hair and tanned skin. Tanya’s style inspiration is Rihanna, and she always dresses to impress. Wherever she goes

Rosie’s smart pinstripe trousers matched with the checked rolled up shirt give off the geek-chic vibe, matched with vintage styled glasses she has nailed the trend. Rosie’s fashion inspiration is retro mixed with high street style.

Luca backed away from the general jeans and white shirt look, and embraced his wild side wearing this colourful graphic jumper. He said his style inspiration is anything different from what people usually wear, oh and also colourful!

With this brightly coloured contrast print shirt, you just can’t miss him. Louis likes to wear things that represent his loud personality, and this certainly does that! Louis shops mainly in Shoreditch and Brick Lane, and doesn’t like high street brands. His inspiration is the modern side of retro – if you know what I mean.
