Richard Sharpe celebrates UEL Journalism and Sports Journalism graduates gaining a professional award as well as their degrees.

Thirteen recent graduates of the University of East London have gained the Professional Publishers Association’s highest certificate in journalism.

Of the 13 who completed the PPA’s Professional Certificate in Journalism, five gained distinctions; seven were awarded merits; and there was one further pass.

Five successful candidates came to collect their professional certificates at the national awards ceremony held in London last week. The awards ceremony was co-chaired by Jim Douglas, editorial director of Future Publishing, and Tim Danton, deputy managing director of Dennis Publishing’s technology division.

UEL is currently the only UK university to offer its students the option of taking the PPA certificate. Students work on their Professional Certificate assessments shortly after completing their degree studies in BA Journalism or BA Sports Journalism.
