Raj Mahil discovers the developers’ plans for the Olympic Park Media Centre.

The former Olympic Park Media Centre will attract a ‘world-class cluster’ of news and other organisations, according to its developers, iCITY.

iCITY, a joint venture between real estate investors Delancey and data centre operators Infinity SDC, was chosen by the Legacy Company to develop the Media Centre site.

BT Sport is iCITY’s first big-name tenant, but the development will not be limited to sports TV production, according to iCITY spokesperson Millie Shuter:

‘What is crucial for us is to secure the right mix of tenants that supports our vision of iCITY as a world-leading hub for creativity and innovation. We want to create a mix of tenants from across the creative and digital industries.’

Start-up companies will be located alongside established corporations and academic institutions such as Loughborough University and Hackney College.

iCITY claims that 7500 jobs will be created and East London will gain a new ‘community destination with facilities for local residents.’

Shuter also refuted complaints in the Hackney Gazette of low return on taxpayer investment, insisting that ‘iCITY will deliver hundreds of millions of pounds to UK GDP’.
