Mitchell Young reports on the National League Pairs 4 Team Tournament which took place at Arena Essex…

Mildenhall won the National League Pairs 4 team tournament as they snatched a 5-4 victory from hosts the Lakeside Young Hammers in the final at Arena Essex.

Four teams made up the field as Lakeside, Mildenhall, Kent and King’s Lynn faced off to battle for the trophy.

Mildenhall topped the table with 17 points to go into the finale against the Young Hammers on 14 points.

The Young Hammers kicked off proceedings against Mildenhall, with hot prospect Marc Owen taking heat one but Connor Coles and Conner Mountain took second and third to take the overall heat win.

In heat two Kent Kings faced King’s Lynn who only had Scott Campos due to Tom Stokes being unable to make the meeting due to being stuck in traffic. Despite the lone rider Campus won the race but Danno Verge and Adam Shepard followed to take a 5-4 win.

Owen took centre stage in heat three after passing Campos on lap two to his second race win and was supported by Jack Kingston in third, to take an overall 6-3 heat against King’s Lynn.

Heat four was an emphatic 7-2 victory for Mildenhall against Kent as Coles won, followed closely by his teammate Mountain in second.

The Young Hammers faced Kent Kings in race five with only Kingston riding for the hosts; this did not faze him as he won the heat to book their place in the final with 14 points.

Mildenhall continued their consistency in the final heat taking an overall 5-4 victory against King’s Lynn to put them into the final race in top spot with 17 points- despite Campos again for King’s Lynn singlehandedly taking his second victory out of three races.

The final was a repeat of heat one – Owen stepped up to show his class to take the final race victory but Kingston, needing only third to give the Young Hammers the victory, was held off by Coles in third. Mountain followed in second to win the overall final 5-4 and the National League Pairs 4 Team Tournament trophy.
