Doncaster Rovers edged closer to a return to League One with a 4-1 victory over troubled Leyton Orient.
Donny striker, John Marquis moved onto 23 goals for the season while former Orient captain Mathieu Baudry and Tommy Rowe scored either side of the half time interval.
It was a difficult evening for the O’s, with ownership issues and money troubles looming over the clubs future.
The east London club suffered their 16th home defeat of the campaign, and are due in High court on Monday having been served with a winding up order by HMRC.
Positive Start
Despite the final result, Orient didn’t lay down and take a beating. The Hosts deservedly went into the break level after Tom Parkes cooly slid the ball past Ian Lawlor following a fast counter attack, but most importantly, cancelled out Rowe’s opener.
With a strong 45 minutes underneath the O’s, the feeling was one of battle and spirit, but this simply disintegrated as Doncaster boss, Darren Ferguson used his resources well and rotated his squad around which unsettled Webb’s men, as Doncaster took the lead ten minutes after the break.
As Doncaster stepped up a gear, the game should have been put to bed as substitutes Andy Williams and Gary McSheffrey both missed easy clear cut chances.
Losing Streak Continues
With Orient on the back foot it was only a matter of time before Doncaster pushed on and scored and they did that in the 82nd minute, when Marquis scored his 23rd goal of the season and second on the evening.
With minutes to go, former Orient defender Baudry slammed home an impressive volley for Doncaster’s fourth goal.
The win leaves Leyton Orient at the foot of League 2 with a tricky tie against Crawley on the cards.
Meanwhile Doncaster now cement their lead over second place Plymouth by six points.
