O’s Leapfrog Title Rivals

Leyton Orient women extended their winning streak with a comfortable win against title rivals London Corinthians.

Orient women are back to winning ways after disposing of London Corinthians 4-0, with goals from Ellie Davies, Ella Meadowcroft and a brace for Jasmine Campbell giving the O’s a much needed victory over a team who beat them 5-2 the last time they met.

The opening minutes were a tight affair with both teams playing quality football, but Campbell in the 25th minute gave the O’s a much-deserved lead they had been waiting for. The goal came after Hayley Barton put in a well-timed cross from the right hand side of the box which Campbell met at the back post to head in.

In the 33rd minute Orient thought they had double their lead only to see the chance cleared off the line by a Corinthians defender after a scramble in the box.

A minute later Orient scored the second goal of the game. It was very similar to the first with Meadowcroft heading home from a cross from the right side of the box .

Competing

The second half started off with both teams competing hard for next goal, but it only took the O’s 10 to get back in control of the game, with Davies getting her name on the score sheet in after the ball landed at her feet in the box from a cross. She was calm enough to slot it past the keeper and give Orient a 3-0 lead.

London Corinthians tried their best to get back in the game but it was too late. The O’s had hit top gear and they were difficult to stop, and in the 63rd minute Campbell fought her way through the defence. Her strength was too much for the Corinthians back line and she was able to convert once she was one-on-one with the keeper to make it 4-0.

Top Goal scorer Sophie Le Marchand did not make the score sheet but her play was valuable to the rest of the team on the day.

If Orient can win their next four games then the league title would be theirs. Aylesford arenext for the O’s and victory this Sunday against them at Mile End would move them a game closer to winning the champions’ crown.
