“Poor Decisions” See Charlton Drop Two Points

A 94th minute equaliser from Amari’I Bell rescues a draw against League One play-off hopefuls Charlton, Harvey Clare reports.

Although Charlton started the game the as the stronger side, dominating early possession, it was the visitors who had the better chances during the first half.

After the game, manager Karl Robinson took aim at the official for the mediocre result saying, “I thought the refereeing decision[s] were poor. I don’t even need to speak about it too much, because the fans could clearly see that today”.

Fleetwood regretted wasting their chances as it was the home side, Charlton who took the lead through a close-range finish from winger, Ricky Holmes.

Gaps In The Back

January signing, Jake Forster-Caskey (who you can find out more about here https://risingeast.co.uk/five-in-five-out-for-charlton/) set up the goal after a mesmerizing bit of footwork.

After the break, Fleetwood desperately searched for an equaliser and came close when Norwich loanee, Paul Rudd denied striker Devante Cole just after the hour.

With the clock quickly running down, the visitors continued to press forward, but left gaps in defence.

Substitute David Bell clipped the crossbar as Fleetwood pressed forward, but the attack left space at the back for Charlton striker, Tony Watt to blaze a shot over the goal from inside the penalty area on the 77th minute.

Red Card

Deep into stoppage time, Fleetwood’s pressure finally broke the hearts of the East-London faithful, as Amari’i Bell headed home from Kyle Dempsey’s corner in the 94th minute.

Moments later, Charlton were reduced to 10 men as Nathan Byrne saw red for a foul on striker, David Ball.

Fleetwood could have sealed Charlton’s fate, but Ashley Hunter only managed to strike the woodwork with his shot.

This result means that Charlton are six matches unbeaten and remain six points off the play-off places, with two games in hand.

They next face 14th place AFC Wimbledon away from home on the 11th of February.
