Preview: Charlton Athletic v Bradford City

Despite playing at home, the bookies fancy Charlton to fall short once again in Tuesday night’s clash with Bradford City, Elliot Fletcher reports.

Following an underwhelming 1-1 draw with Walsall at The Valley on Saturday, Karl Robinson’s side will be aiming to push on and secure three points for only the third time in their last 13 fixtures.

The Addicks have been more effective in front of goal in their last four League One fixtures, scoring seven goals in that duration. However, the defence of Charlton remains questionable with the south-east London side conceding an alarming eight goals in four matches.

Bradford’s form heading into the game is surely a cause for concern for Charlton, as Stuart McCall’s men are unbeaten in their last five fixtures, boasting two wins from their last two away fixtures.

Defensive Casualties

Karl Robinson has been plagued with injuries to his first-team since taking over in November and his latest dilemma is an unenviable one. Charlton currently find themselves with Jorge Teixeira as their only fit centre-back for the Bradford clash following the most recent injury to young defender, Ezri Konsa at the weekend.

Elsewhere, Chris Solly and Josh Magennis are out while Jordan Botaka remains doubtful. In a rare bit of good news for Charlton, seasoned captain, Johnnie Jackson is likely to return to the starting XI.

Head-to-Head

The two sides have previously met in Karl Robinson’s first league match in charge of Charlton, playing out to a goalless draw at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Both sides will be hoping to expand on that point when they meet tomorrow, but taking into account the number of first-team players that are side-lined for the Addicks, it may prove to be another disappointing week.
